Racking your brain to decide what to bring for the morning tea at work? Based on my observation, most people tend to prepare sweet food such as cupcakes, cakes, donuts and cookies for a morning tea. Savoury food are usually scarce in this occasion and thus, if you do provide savoury food, it would be very popular. Tuna rolls could be one of the choices. They are easy to make and can be prepared on the night before. Moreover, they can even be served cold if you like (of course I personally prefer warm rolls).
These tuna rolls are super easy to make with frozen puff pastry. I made them in one of the morning teas at work and countless times at home for dinner when I was lazy to cook. It takes only 30mins!
Recipe:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 diced onion
1 can of tuna (without the water or oil)
1 beaten egg
1 pastry sheet
Dried parsley flakes
Grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper
Sesame seeds
1. Heat oil on a frying pan or wok. Briefly stir fry the onion.
2. Stir in tuna. Break the tuna into flakes if you're using tuna chunks.
3. Sprinkle dried parsley flakes and grated Parmesan cheese evenly on the tuna and onion. Mix well. Add salt and pepper to taste. Remove from the stove to cool.
4. Thaw the pastry sheet until almost soft. Cut the pastry sheet into half.
5. Pour half of the tuna mixture on the centre of the half pastry sheet to form a line. Brush one end of the edges with the beaten egg. Roll up from the other end to create a tube. Cut it into bite size pieces. Arrange them on the baking tray. Brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Repeat the same for the other half pastry sheet.
6. Bake at 190c for 18-20mins or until the pastries turn brown.
